Hi I’m Hannah the Deputy Lead Nurse for PCC and SIC for the East Midlands.
I trained in Manchester at Salford University and on qualifying in 2010 started my first nursing post on PICU at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital I then transferred to PICU at BCH due to an interest in cardiac surgery. After just over 3 years in PICU I decided I wanted a new challenge in the Emergency Department. I worked in the Emergency Department at UHCW for 5 years progressing to Unit Manager. During my career I continue to have a real passion for surgery and in 2018 I took on a new challenge of Ward Sister on the Surgical Day Care Unit at BCH.
Working on the day unit was exciting, challenging and extremely fast paced. As the day unit was within a tertiary hospital the patients that attended for surgery were varied and often complex; to include trauma, line insertion and removal, biopsies, lasers and eye surgery to name a few specialties . Following maternity leave and a pandemic which changed children’s surgery significantly (we are still seeing the impact of this 3 years later) I felt I could have a wider impact on the healthcare system. In 2022 I joined the West Midlands Children’s network to champion and improve surgical pathways whilst supporting the critical care services. I moved over to the East Midlands team July 2024! Home life for me includes bringing up 2 young girlies who like me love the outdoors in any weather!
I enjoy an audiobook, so please send through your top reads as I am open to suggestions!
