Hi, my name is Katie and I am pleased to be the PCC & LTV educator for East Midlands ODN.
I am originally from a small village called Healing, near the coastal town of Grimsby. My hobbies include field hockey, sewing, crochet and knitting. Although it is rare you will find me on the hockey pitch anymore, you will often find me sewing a new item for my wardrobe or making blankets for my children to make dens! I prefer savoury to sweet, beer to wine and would rather go to a theme park than sit on a beach.
My career started in 2012 when I qualified as a Children’s nurse from the University of Wolverhampton. From here I worked briefly in school nursing but missed the pace of acute paediatrics and moved to a DGH in Lincolnshire for a few years. This is where I found my passion for HDU nursing. I then relocated to Oxfordshire with my husband who was in the forces at the time. I worked on PICU/PHDU for 6 years where my interests were neuro, catheter care and critical care transport. Here I had the opportunity to become a clinical educator and this is where my passion for education began. During this time I also started a family and have two children, life became a bit hectic and living so far away from family, decided to relocate to the midlands. At this point in my career I knew I wanted to be an educator and secured a development post as PHDU educator for Coventry. I learnt a lot in this new role by developing the service and started my PG Cert in Practice Education which I have recently completed.
